Coffee Bean Direct Poor Man's Blend, Whole Bean Coffee, 5-Pound Bag

It's not fair that some people reviewing this item give it such a low rating. You get what you pay for, and then some.

.40 an oz.
$6.40 a lb.

That's all the rating I need. This coffee IS EXCELLENT FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY. Also, low ratings for coffee shouldn't be taken seriously. I have 5 years barista experience and know what coffee should taste like and how to make it well. Most people over or under grind their beans. Play with your grind and measurements. Some don't clean their machines or replace their filters. Some don't store their beans properly. Coffee beans are highly porous and will soak up any odor, you MUST keep them sealed tightly and at room temp. Do NOT wash the container you store your beans in with detergent, only mild fragrance-free soap. At Starbucks we wiped the plastic bean hoppers once a day and washed them once a week. If you search "OXO" in Amazon Warehouse Deals, you might find the perfect container for these beans, I have one already. I suggest the OXO 5 quart.

Poor Rich Dad's Guide to Investing: What the Rich Invest in, That the Poor and the Middle Class Do Not!

I've read close to 60 books on Personal Finance, Investing, and How-To-Be-Rich-types and this one is one of the best I have read. I have enjoyed Robert Kiyosaki's other books, but this one is the best, in my opinion, because he reviews many of his principles from his previous books just in case this may be the first of his books that you are reading.
This is not a *HOW-TO* book on HOW to become wealthy or which steps to take to become wealthy. Like the author states, this book is about the INVESTOR, not specific strategies. To become truly wealthy you have to do two things. First, you NEED to change how you think, not just about money but about all areas of your life. Why go after riches if your marriage is in trouble or you don't spend enough time with your children? Secondly, you NEED to take different actions. If your last 5 years were miserable, then your next 5 years will be the same unless you DO something different. If at least 95% of the people in this country are not wealthy then you cannot do what 95% of people do. You have to do what the other 5% do; people WILL tell you you are crazy or what you are doing won't work. This happened to me and I am GLAD I did not listen to those people who still work at a job (I don't).

Poor Invisible in America Paperback –

Poor Invisible in America Paperback –

The Working Poor examines the "forgotten America" where "millions live in the shadow of prosperity, in the twilight between poverty and well-being." These are citizens for whom the American Dream is out of reach despite their willingness to work hard. Struggling to simply survive, they live so close to the edge of poverty that a minor obstacle, such as a car breakdown or a temporary illness, can lead to a downward financial spiral that can prove impossible to reverse. David Shipler interviewed many such working people for this book and his profiles offer an intimate look at what it is like to be trapped in a cycle of dead-end jobs without benefits or opportunities for advancement. He shows how some negotiate a broken welfare system that is designed to help yet often does not, while others proudly refuse any sort of government assistance, even to their detriment. Still others have no idea that help is available at all.
"As a culture, the United States is not quite sure about the causes of poverty, and is therefore uncertain about the solutions," he writes. Though he details many ways in which current assistance programs could be more effective and rational, he does not believe that government alone, nor any other single variable, can solve the problem. Instead, a combination of things are required, beginning with the political will needed to create a relief system "that recognizes both the society's obligation through government and business, and the individual's obligation through labor and family." He does propose some specific steps in the right direction such as altering the current wage structure, creating more vocational programs (in both the public and private sectors), developing a fairer way to distribute school funding, and implementing basic national health care.
Prepare to have any preconceived notions about those living in poverty in America challenged by this affecting book. --Shawn Carkonen --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

"This is your last day. Be strong. Don't hesitate. Cut and run. An exit with no return." Idris Alis confessional novel opens with these words, spoken on an unbearably hot August afternoon in downtown Cairo, where the Nubian narrator has just decided, once and for all, to end his life. Delirious and thirsty, he wanders around venting his resentments large and small, his sexual frustrations, and his sense of powerlessness in the face of unremitting injustice. He seeks to expunge his failed life in the Nile: the river that had been the life blood of his country for millennia, and that with Egypt's new dam now drowns Nubia, flinging her dispossessed sons north and south into exile. Many years ago, the narrator was one of those sons, fleeing flood and famine only to arrive in Cairo, penniless and shoeless, in time to see it go up in flames, the old regime overthrown by "the men in tanks." Poor is the story of a life of hardship, adversity, and emotional starvation. It is also the story of opportunities squandered and hopes traded away for nothing of a life lived, at times, all too poorly.

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

After six records, 20 nationwide tours, and tens of thousands of
records sold, The Scarred has become less a band and more an urban
legend. Having embarked on sold-out tours with bands such as Cheap
Sex, Cocksparrer, Street Dogs, and Skeptix, they have are a force to
be reckoned with. Live Fast, Die Poor reflects growth, maturity, and
a refined sound. The record is a slight departure from the Punkcore
Records era, with a more straightforward punk sound that disables
any attempt to solidify them into a strict genre.

Review

Live Fast, Die Poor is to The Scarred what Mommy s Little Monster
was to Social Distortion or London Calling was to The Clash. It is one
of those rare, band-defining albums. --amp Poor Live Fast Die Poor

A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty

A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty

A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty

The authors identify three major approaches to dealing with world poverty, suggest that whatever their virtues and faults, there is a very piecemeal and pragmatic approach through which significant gains can be made without addressing the systemic obstacles identified by the three approaches. Their analysis is brilliant, focused, rooted in first-rate data sets, yet rich in social detail and anecdotal vignettes. I believe there are probably right, and their approach deserves to be widely studied an evaluated by policy makers in the advanced and developing countries.

Poor  Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! Mass Market Paperback – August 16, 2011

When he isn't engaged in his nearly incessant showboating, Kiyosaki actually gets down to some practical, all be it general, guidance on how to think about money:

* Probably the greatest insight is how to think about assets and liabilities. A million accountants scream in anguish, but a primary residence, with a large mortgage, high taxes and high fixed costs to top it off, is not an "asset" for Kiyosaki because it doesn't produce a positive cash flow. Instead, he lists several items, such as rental property, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, business partnerships with limited involvement, promissory notes and royalties (p. 89), that generate money and should be invested in.

* Don't get into large debt positions for non-necessities. Buy your luxury items for cash (p. 176). This is part of any sound financial planning and is taken to its logical endpoint by the authors of "The Millionaire Next Door."

* Watch out for the tax effect of your sales of real estate. In this sense, the book is out of date, since the tax laws were changed in the late 90s to permit up to $250,000 in capital gains ($500,000 for married couples) from the sale of a primary residence be exempt from federal tax, under certain circumstances. No longer must you rely on the 1031 "trading up" provision he describes, at least not exclusively.

* Fear can be utilized as a great motivator to act, as opposed to fear causing you to be a deer in the headlights of life.

However, before we all run off to leverage real estate to become gentlepeople of leisure, let's try to remember a few things.

* This book is written for one reason: to be earn the author money.

Poor Poor Charlie's Almanack: The Wit and Wisdom of Charles T. Munger, Expanded Third Edition

First of all, this is my first and last book review. I don't write these ever, and I will never write one again. However, seeing this gem had only 6 reviews and I felt this needed to be said.

You can't afford to not read this. Think of it as a gift to humanity from a higher more intelligent species - Its something you don't want to go through life having missed.

I spend about 16 hours a day researching financial markets/value investing.

I have read over 50 books on related subjects - No book has influenced my thought process more that this one. It is simply amazing.

You will not get the value from this book when you close the last page, but when you see the world relate in the ways Munger lays out for you. This is one of the greatest minds and business and he tells you his secrets. The last chapter on the psychology of human misjudgment will live on past Munger's days. It is his greatest work and is invaluable information. The way your brain fires and works will literally physically change over time from the things this book teaches you. Its a mind trainer - it teaches you how to look at problems. It is worth its weight in platinum.

I don't care who you are. You need to buy this and pound his ideas in your head. You won't even think its that great as you read it and might even wonder why it is praised so much. Over time, you'll see things how Munger does and start to think like Munger does. Whatever field you are in, this book will help you to look and analyze problems and the world as a whole in a different more intelligent manner. Again, I cannot praise or recommend this book enough. When your done with it and look back years later, this odd review I just wrote will make crystal clear sense to you. Your welcome.
